Moms Busy Studying for Their Kids

In today's Korea Times, one subheadline has this title. And as I read the article, it said that it urges mothers to be more involved in their children's education. Not just choosing the hagwons or special schools for their children but to be more involved in their children's education as well.

My students in my hagwon are good students. They can understand the English stories but only after the Korean translations have been provided. This is true not just for the elementary students but also for the middle school students. So I have to go slower than the Korean teachers.

In my yesterday's class of middle school students, I noticed that they read slower, much slower than the usual pace. Then when I looked into the folder where the other Korean teacher's lessons were written, nothing was written on David's page. David is the Korean teacher.

So I asked them what they did in David's class. And they just said that David explained this and that for an hour. So what did I do next?

I just told them to put the meaning of the vocabulary words. If they have a cellphone with a dictionary, they can use it. Or, if they have an electronic dictionary, they could also use it.

Next week I will not have any classes with them because they are reviewing for their middle school examinations. I just hope they do well.
