How about the customer?
I always try to see the good about the korean market like occupational disease.
Even now that I am teaching English here.
Korean customers are so diverse and easily change their minds.
Many companies try so hard to follow this pattern.
Here is the Korean customers' trend nowadays and for a while :-)
1. MULTI
The PREFIX Multi- is used to form adjectives indicating that something consists of many things of a particular kind. ...the introduction of multi-play. ...a multi-space...
Every type of business' technical completion is very high in South Korea
and customers want easy access to use the device.
Customers want to spend money for items that bring more self-fulfillment in several ways.
It is a different concept with convergence. It is more like looking for a solution.
Customers want to go to the place that can provide tea and food with nailshop and internet access.
I have an MP3 player that can be a dictionary, a PMP, a game machine, an E-book reader and can watch television (DMB).
2.Color addiction
Customers want variety.
In the past several years, customers prefer the black and white color or the metalic color.
But now, customers want splendid colors like the Glamour Look in the Great Depression or the ethnic fashion in Oil Shock.
Customers want to get relief from warm and bright colors.
Every high-end gadget is a fashionista.
3. Kitsch & Retro
There are three reasons why customers pay for Kitsch & Retro.
* Nostalgia
* Looks different
* Just Fun
Many kidult items are still on the market here, and more Kitsch & Retro items will come out to
meet customers who want to join and to make fun of OVER luxury culture in here.
4. Eco-friendly
There should be more concern about the environment, health and a safe life.
More expansion concepts than green nomad that wants to feel more nature in the city.
Even general customers want to pay for energy saving items.
5. Time of Patriotism
When the economy is not good, companies have only one option.
OURS.
We can easily see the commercials for patriotic marketing.
Who does not?
6. Only for me
There are already enough items for ME.
Mini wine, ready to eat rice for one person, mini freezer.
There are three types of self-concentrated consumption.
*A sudden increase in products which will enable you to spend time alone.
When you walk here, everyone has to do something alone. Such as listening to music, gaming,
and watching television.
*Spreading the product that customers can make.
In here, DIY there is R(repair)IY, M(make)IY.
My Korean friend made the LCD of televisions using an internet shop.
*Slight items go to luxury
Luxury concept go to USB memory or the toilet paper.
7. Ultra-mobile
Do you hear something about the ultra-mobile products or high-end tech products?
News from somewhere?
Please try to find a Korean near your side and ask about it.
They are already using it. I'm sure.
8. Smart
Ironically, the boom of luxurious items in South Korea raises the low priced market, too.
They will pay a lot if they like it. But they are so sensitive about quality by comparing prices with other products.
Let's see a fast fashion market. There is a high-end cellphone that replaces a small laptop.
But that is only for calling cellphones which are available here.
So called divergence.
