Illegal Aliens in the US

In today's Korea times, one subheadline reads there are about 230,000 undocumented illegal Koreans in the US. Number one is Mexico which accounts for 59% or 7 millions of the illegal aliens.

El Salvador comes next followed by Guatemala. Then the Philippines and China.

When I went to San Francisco last year, there were a lot of Chinese. Of course, I saw also a lot of Filipinos. The number of immigrants, whether legal or illegal, depends on the location. In San Francisco, there are a lot of Filipinos. In restaurants, in shoppinng centers, in public places. Of course, there were a lot of Chinese too.

How did I know whether they were Chinese or Mexicans? Of course, the legal immigrants would point to them. Those Mexicans are looking for work. Those Chinese are going to Chinatown.

Also you will know by the language they are using. If they start speaking in Tagalog, they are Filipinos. Or if they speak in Spanish, they are Mexicans or Puerto Ricans.

But you cannot point a person's status just by looking at him or her. Those who have money, pay lawyers to change their status from illegal to legal. That's what some Koreans do. Just don't know whether this is true or not.

I also know some illegal Filipinos in the US. I really hope they are doing something to fix their illegal status.

Well, they have to. If they have problems with the law, and their status is illegal, they will be deported to their home country. And they will no longer be allowed to go back.
